SMASHPHONE

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 26, 2026

The short version: the Smashphone app collects no personal data. No accounts, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs. The one thing the app sends us is a handful of anonymous, aggregate counts — “the paywall was seen today”, “a match finished” — with no identifier of any kind attached; that is described under App telemetry. Everything else below explains the few places your data touches your own devices or Apple's services — never us. This website counts its visitors anonymously; see This website.

Motion data

Smashphone reads the accelerometer and gyroscope of your iPhone — or your Apple Watch, if you use it as the racket — to detect your swings. This data is streamed only over your own local network, directly from your device to the browser you opened the game in. It is processed live for gameplay, never written to disk, and never transmitted to the internet. When you close the app, it is gone.

Local network

The app runs a small server on your phone so that your browser can load the game and receive swing data. This server is only reachable from your own Wi-Fi network or Personal Hotspot. In two-player Versus, a second iPhone joins the same session with a room code over that same local network. Nothing connects outward to anything.

Apple Health

If you turn on Save matches to Apple Health, finished matches are written to Apple Health as workouts — duration, active energy, and, when you play with an Apple Watch, heart rate. This information lives in Apple Health on your device, under your control and Apple's privacy protections. We never receive it, and you can turn the setting off at any time in the Profile tab.

Game Center

Game Center leaderboards are optional. If you are signed in to Game Center, your scores are submitted to Apple's leaderboards, which Apple operates under Apple's Privacy Policy. We run no leaderboard servers and receive no personal information from Game Center.

Purchases

Smashphone offers one optional in-app purchase, the All Sports Pass. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never see your name, card details, or Apple ID. Your ownership is stored as an on-device App Store receipt; there is no account, and we keep no record of who bought what.

App telemetry

To learn whether the app's features work at all — does anyone reach the paywall, does the first match get played — the app sends us a small set of anonymous event counts: things like first launch, a court connected, a match finished, the paywall was shown, a purchase completed. Each event carries only the app version, the App Store storefront country, and three coarse labels for the event itself: which screen it happened on; for the paywall and purchase events, which sport was behind the lock; and for a match, whether it was played on a free sport, a one-time trial, or a purchased pass. There is no device identifier, no user identifier, no session identifier, and no timestamp beyond the day bucket the count lands in; IP addresses are not stored. These counts cannot be traced to you or joined into a profile — they are totals, like a turnstile. That's the entire list; the app sends nothing else.

Data we collect

This website

The app and this site are separate things. To know whether anyone is finding smashphone.app, we use Vercel Web Analytics on the site only. It sets no cookies, keeps no IP address, and stores nothing on your device. Each visit is counted through a hash that is thrown away and re-salted every day, recording only which page was viewed, where the link came from, and a coarse country/browser/device type. That data cannot be traced back to you, joined across days, or followed to other websites — and there is no advertising network anywhere near it. The only thing the app sends to this site is the anonymous telemetry counts described above.

Contacting support

If you write to us — by email, or through the support form — we receive only what you type and, when you open the form from inside the app, the app version and device model it attaches so we can reproduce a bug. We use that solely to reply and are not required to keep it.

Children

Smashphone is suitable for all ages. Because the app collects no personal data — only anonymous totals that identify nobody — there is no personal data collection from children either.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. Given the app's design — no accounts, no servers — we don't expect it to change often.
